“ALIENLANDSCAPES & Inner Vision”
Fiber Works by Rebecca Quigley
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota is pleased to host “ALIENLANDSCAPES & Inner Vision” – an exhibit of fiber works by Rebecca Quigley. The exhibit will be on display in the Lexow Wing Gallery from March 20th through April 14th. The opening reception will be held on Sunday, March 20th, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Educated as a weaver, Rebecca’s eye was drawn to the tactile, colorful nature of her surroundings. “My vision is new and old at the same time, driven by delight in the color and texture that has always been evocative to me, but in a way that is more playful and less constrained by boundaries than ever,” says Rebecca of her current work. “I am drawn again to fiber and the ancient practice of felt making, as well as the historic activity of papermaking. Layering, stitching, combining texture, color and mark making with freedom is a celebration.”
By using this family of techniques, Rebecca feels she can speak to the concept of time and of place, and to the ephemeral, personal, evolving reaction to the world that she sees around her. Giving her work titles that are to some degree enigmatic is a delight to Rebecca. It translates into a description of her world, and of its daily life and of the stories it can tell, colored by the viewer’s own vision and experience. See more of her work online at www.alienlandscape.net .

Arts Council
(Contact: Linda Cordisco at lkcordisco@gmail.com)
Our church and its members have a rich history of support and involvement in the arts. The mission of the Arts Council is to provide Members and Friends of the Church avenues for artistic expression and appreciation. The Lexow Wing of the Church was designed as a gallery to help fulfill this mission. We are proud of the artistic endeavors of our members and others in the community who exhibit their work in the Gallery.
Membership in the UUCS Arts Council is open to all Church Members and Friends with an interest in the arts and a desire to share that interest with others. We meet the first Saturday of every month at 1:00 pm – currently via Zoom. Come share cultural information, help research artists, set up and promote exhibits, help preserve the aesthetic heritage of the Church, and have some fun in the process.

“Poetry of the Ordinary”
Photographs by Susan Davy
The UUCS Arts Council is pleased to host “Poetry of the Ordinary," an exhibit of photographs by Susan Davy. The exhibit will be on display in the Lexow Wing Gallery until March 17th.
With her photographs, Susan Davy shares with us her experience of the simple, yet elegant poetry of ordinary scenes. She says, “The works in this show hang in conversation with each other. Conversations about color, light, water, reflections, and empty spaces: enduring themes in my photographic work, along with a fascination for ordinary everyday beauty. Perhaps I may change how you look at the simple yet elegant poetry of ordinary scenes. I hope so!”
Please stop in to see the exhibit. The video below suggests some of what you will experience.

Glass Creations
by Esther Jensen
UUCS Artist of the Month

My glass studio practice is essentially an effort to distill my experiences of always having lived by or near open waters, from the North Sea in my native Denmark, by the Gulf of Mexico from my home on the Florida coast, and now from my studio on Sarasota Bay. I attempt to create personally significant work that communicates my respect for the glass and the process of making what I consider the best in design and workmanship.
At the heart of my glass creations is a desire for honesty, harmony, structure, and a strong sense of physicality. I find the physical weight of my items to be comforting and grounding. Besides sculpture reliefs I particularly enjoy creating functional items for everyday use.

Painting with Fabric
by Rhoda Taylor
UUCS Artist of the Month
"I have tried many art media during my life and found that fiber is the medium for me. I love the fabrics that are available and enjoy putting them together with fabrics that I have dyed, rust printed, and bleach discharged. I feel that I paint with pieces of fabric as I design my artwork. For further information about my work, please contact me at rhodataylor36@gmail.com."

Creating Art...
by Sue Kennedy
UUCS Artist of the Month
"Creating art has always been a way to go to a place where all my attention is focused, where I am at peace. I am fascinated by color and shape and their relationship on a surface. I do not intend to have an idea I am conveying. This frees me to follow no rules. It allows the viewer to interpret what they see."
