2nd- 5th Grade UU Church of Sarasota Class Schedule
as of January 15, 2020 (subject to change)

1/26/2020: 
Chinese New Year- The children will learn about the Chinese New Year, making symbols of kindness, and share a Chinese moon cakes and tea with the congregation after church.

2/2/2020: Buddha's Birthday- The children will learn about the life of Buddha, act out a play, make a flower shrine.

2/9/2020: Valentines Day- Children will start in Service and hand out chocolates before returning to the classroom to create art.

2/16/2020: Festima-  The children will learn about the African Mask Festival that celebrates African spiritual culture and will make masks.

2/23/2020:  Mardi Gras-   The children will learn about the meaning of Lent and why Mardi Gras is celebrated.  They will do a Mardi Gras parade in the courtyard after service.

3/1/2020:  Pancake Breakfast-  All children will help set-up and prepare for the Pancake Breakfast to be served in-between the 2 services from 10:45-11:45

3/8/2020:  Purim-  The children will learn about the Jewish holiday of Purim and make groggers.

3/15/2020:  St Patrick's Day-  The children will learn about the story of St. Patrick and make shamrock pretzels

3/22/2020:  Holi-  The children will learn about the Hindu Festival of Love and the Colors.  This is a Spring holiday and will involve getting wet with some water play

3/29/2020:  Social Action-   (TBD)

4/5/2020:  Passover-  The children will learn about Passover and participate in a mini-seder with traditional Passover foods and song.

4/12/2020:  Easter Party-  All children will start in Service before heading to the West Wing for the Easter Party

4/19/2020:  Earth Day Intergenerational Service-  All Children and Youth will participate in the Earth Day Service.

4/26/2020:  Ramadan- The children will learn about Ramadan and the month of fasting, learn to write their name in Arabic and enjoy a Middle Eastern feast. 

5/3/2020:  Japanese Children's Day-  The children will learn about Japanese Children's Day, share stores of gentleness & courage and make carp kites.
