Q: Why do we need a two-year interim?
A: We are not the church we were when Roger joined us in 2011. First, we have grown substantially which affects staff, volunteers, space (including our second location), technology support, etc. An Interim Minister will help us assess where we are today, where we are going and what we need to do to continue to be successful. Second, the UUA reports that congregations that engage an Interim Minister for a 2-year period have a 90% success rate with their new Settled Minister. Congregations with a 1-year Interim report a 54% success rate. Third, a prospective Settled Minister knows that a congregation that has invested two years in an interim ministry and self-assessment are better prepared for a new minister. That makes our church a more attractive place to work.
Q. Why are there not more women on the Transition Committee? A: Seeking past leaders to serve on this committee led to the imbalance. Even though this is not a decision-making group, we must do better. Rev. Beth Miller is lending her expertise to the committee which helps. Of greater importance will be the make-up of the two search committees, which will be determined by the Board and the Members.
