Youth Group

 SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM

During the summer, our Sunday Youth Program is in hiatus.  Youth are encouraged to join the congregation in service or volunteer in the RE program (for service hours).  Not all volunteer jobs are working with the children’s program or even on Sundays.  Please have youth contact DRE, Susan Cook-Hallock.  The RE program is currently in need of computer/video savvy person!

Our video nights will continue during the summer.  There will also be some "special events".

6:30 - 8pm

join us in the teen room as we watch
The Simpson's

there will be pizza
&
friends are invited

PictureThe curriculum is adaptable for senior high youth and adults.
During the school year, our youth group functions with an open forum format. This means that the group is run by the Youth in an open and judgement-free format where everyone has a chance to talk. What the youth decide to put into the program is what they will get out of it. They decide what they would like to learn and talk about and come up with the means to do so. We have recently applied this format to Neighboring Faiths. Neighboring Faiths is a curriculum based on exploring different religions. The teens decide on which faiths they'd like to explore and how they'd like to utilize the curriculum lessons into the open forum format. Our Youth Advisers are there to supervise and make sure things stay on track, as well as provide any guidance the youth may seek.

RE Pancake Brunch was a huge success
!
We made a delicious brunch of pancakes , waffles, fruit, bacon & sausage to the congregation after Service on April 24th. All proceeds from the event were donated to ShelterBox.  Our donation along with the Social Justice "Share the Plate" contribution will sponsor 2 shelterboxes.   Thanks to all the children, youth, parents and RE volunteers who worked hard on this event.  Extra thanks to the youth & Jim Redifer for the great job organizing, shopping & hosting the brunch.

“Operation 100 Sandwiches” was a huge success! We made over 110 sandwiches and filled 100 lunch bags with fruit, chips and granola bars for the homeless served at Resurrection House.   Thanks to all the children, youth & parents who worked hard getting this project done.  Thanks also to everyone  who donated to the purchase of the lunch fixings.

Sexuality education for Grades 7 - 9

Picture
Our Whole Lives (OWL) provides adolescents  a comprehensive look at sexuality.
While providing facts about anatomy and human development,  it  also helps adolescents  clarify their values and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.  Topics covered include:   gender and diversity;  relationships;
sexual orientation; and responsible sexual behavior.

The  OWL curriculum is based on the National Sexuality Education Standards produced by the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) an organization of leading health, education and sexuality professionals.

Sessions are lead by a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and trained facilitators.

Program:   12 sessions, Program date to be determined in 2016-2017 program year.  The first session is a mandatory parent orientation.  The sessions will be held weekly and will run for 90 minutes.

Parent information and answers to Frequently Asked Questions can be found at:
