The Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota has created a Racial Justice Collaboration Team as a sub-committee of the Social Justice Committee to develop a plan to raise our congregation's awareness of racial justice issues and to identify ways the church and our members can be involved in dismantling the systems and the culture of white supremacy and racism.
The topics of Racism, Systemic Racism, the culture of White Supremacy, and White privilege is a deep pool to jump into and can be intimidating. Let our Education area help guide you in taking on different levels of knowledge.
Action! Everyone wants to be able to take action. This can be participating in a book discussion group. It can be contacting your government officials. It can be learning about and participating in the Manasota Anti-Racism Coalition. Check this site for Upcoming Racial Justice events at the Church and in our Community.
The 8th Principle has been proposed by the Black Lives of UU (BLUU) Organizing Collective and they are encouraging all UUs to advocate for the adoption of the 8th principle, articulating a commitment to dismantling of white supremacy within the stated principles of our faith.
