Music:
Fernando Traba has served as Principal Bassoon of Sarasota Orchestra since 1992. He is a native of Mexioco City, Mexico, and previously held posts as Principal Bassoon with all five major orchestras in Mexico City, as well as the Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias in Oviedo, Spain, the National Opera Orchestra in Lisbon, Portugal and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería in Mexico City. He has performed many of the major bassoon concertos with orchestras in Mexico, Europe and the United States. An avid chamber musician, Mr. Traba has been a member of the Sarasota Wind Quintet since 1992. He has also performed with The Instrumenta Music Festival in Puebla, Mexico, the Palm Beach Chamber Music Festival and is a regular guest artist with ChamberFest Cleveland.
Mr. Traba holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Cleveland Institute of Music and has done postgraduate work at the Juilliard School. In addition to his orchestral duties and teaching positions, he has edited and provided the Spanish language translation for the 2nd edition of Bassoon Reed Making: Basic Technique by Christopher Weait.

What Is Medical Aid in Dying?
In February, 2023, Florida lawmakers introduced the Death with Dignity Act (S864/H1231). If passed, this would allow residents of Florida to access medical aid in dying. Our speaker, who started the Florida Death with Dignity nonprofit, will provide information about the requirements and safeguards of such a law, and the status of this legislation in Florida. Annual Meeting after the Service

Members meet each year for a quick review of the new budget and to elect members to represent us on the Board of Trustees. This year we consider some updates to the bylaws regarding remote voting, as illustrated left. Your presence is requested to ensure a quorum.
Mindfulness-Based Human Flourishing Group in the Reeb Room at 3:00 pm:

A Practice of Care
The Mindfulness-Based Human Flourishing group will explore the role of mindfulness practice as a key to flourishing in every aspect of human life. We will provide an ethical, contemplative and philosophical framework for mindfulness using early teachings of the Buddha. Weekly meetings will focus on the practice of mindfulness from 3 :00 -5:00 in the Reeb Room. Open to beginners and experienced practitioners. The first hour will consist of a 20-minute meditation, a talk and group discussion. Second hour will be the same with a deeper focus. Participants are invited to attend either or both. Read more...

Live Zen Buddhism via Zoom at 7:00 pm:

A group focusing on "The Study and Practice of Zen" meets every Sunday evening at 7 pm via Zoom. Each session is organized into two components: The study of Zen and the practice of Zen through a 20-minute meditation. Open to newcomers as well as experienced Zen practitioners.
